The main objective of waste-fired plants is to thermally treat the waste. Hybrid waste-to-energy technology consists of a dual fuel combined cycle integrating a gas turbine to a Rankine cycle. The non-recyclable municipal solid waste feeds the waste boiler while natural gas (or biomethane) feeds a gas turbine. In this book, advanced optimized systems are proposed in order to generate electricity with high efficiency while safely treating the waste within affordable costs. This technology is investigated through a comprehensive method including energy, exergy, economic and environmental aspects. This research aims to foster the technology application in countries with access to natural gas or biomethane sources. The hybrid solution makes the plant a dual fuel thermopower plant where the energy generated depends on the shares of both fuels. The challenge of hybridization of waste-to-energy systems is to seek greater efficiency with higher percentage of waste, including the economical aspect. This book aims to show that investing in hybrid waste-to-energy facilities is a very attractive alternative to solve both problems of waste management and energy generation in urban centers.
